THAT TIME OF YEAR

It's that time of year when the garden has come to an end..I am sad for that part,Because I am gonna miss all those fresh veggies from my own garden...These are a few of my ornamental mini pumpkins that just came up from some that I threw away last year... This is the last of my veggies from my little garden..
But Hubby has some new crops up and growing strong..He has planted Turnips and Mustard greens..Here in the south we love our greens, and not just these two kinds but lots of others to..Growing up we always planted(we call it sowed)our greens around the 15th of August,My mom and dad still plant on that date..They are 73 and 82 years old,and if it has worked all these years it must be the right time to sow them..wouldn't you think??The greens have come up pretty good!!!

The crab apple tree is full of miniature red apples, they are so pretty.
Remember how good the blossom smells in the spring??

( Can you see the grandaddy long legs in the above pic)click to enlarge...

My big beautiful dogwood out back of the house. It was full of bloom this spring, and this is what it looked like then...

Now that it is coming fall, this is what it looks like up close now....

The berries looks like what I would use at Christmas time. They are just such a bright red color..And of course the birds will eat them up after a while, but I really do enjoy looking at them..we built a deck this summer that is right next to the dogwood,It is really nice to sit out there with a cup of tea early in the morning and just look how pretty it is with all it's red and green glory...

Shag the Cat and I went walking again(we do a lot of that)and we found some more pretty and fresh shrooms growing in a different part of the Big Woods..I hope you don't get tired of me talking about Shag the Cat..

....He is my bestest little friend...okay we will go on...
...Well just one more little thing about Shag the Cat...

Look at that nose stuck in that shroom to take a smell.
......Is he just cute or what???
These shrooms look like eggs!!!

And then there are the leaves starting to show a little color here and there.

Over the next few months we should have some beautiful colors after all the rain we've had... looking so forward to all of what fall has to offer..

God is so good to us all.... until next time...have a good day...

  1. Isn't it wonderful to grow your own veggies? Our tomatoes got a blight and rotted on the vine :(
You have a great selection and your pumpkins look really great.
Very cute pic of Shag the cat.

  2. Oh your pumpkins look really good! I tried to plant some this year but they didn't do any good. Any tips on how to plant those babies so maybe next year I might be so lucky to have some?

  3. Saw some big shrooms in my back yard today and thought of you...We don't get frost until late Oct or early Nov so our garden is still putting out....Fall time makes me miss home a lot(Appalachian Mountains).

  4. Hi Andora...we're on our last garden veggies too...Your crab apple tree is beautiful...so healthy looking...and the berries on the dogwood, well the squirrels and birds eat all of mine so I never see that many very long.

Shag's nose was sweet to see...sniffing the mushrooms!

  5. I absolutely love greens. Our dogwoods are doing about the same as yours. Love Shag. Never can talk too much about the ones that love you! The color on the crab apples is simply divine.

  10. Wow, what a splendid cornucopia of a harvest post! The greens look almost too pretty to eat. The crab apples look exactly good enough to eat. Enjoying tea near the dogwood trees is the kind of thing I pay to enjoy when I visit my favorite bed and breakfast farm in the Hocking Hills of Ohio. As for the fall leaves already in the air ... definitely awaiting their full glory with much anticipation! Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos.
