On Saturday some of my family decided to go" hickory chicken"(morel)hunting out in the bigger woods...That is what we call them around here...don't know why...they don't look or taste like a chicken..We only found a few..just now time for them to pop up...
These are may apples....and they do get something on them that looks like a small tiny apple.. And their leaves really spread out and looks like an umbrella when they are full grown....we know when these are up the morels are up to....
We came across this old home place, there were reminders everywhere you looked that someone lived here many many years ago...Here is an old hand dug well..I would've like to of seen this place when it was a working homestead..People back then use to set their jars or cans of milk in the well or fresh water spring to keep it cold and from spoiling in the summer...we did that when our fridge tore up when I was a little girl..
Looks like this is an ole wash pan...growing up we had one of these to wash our hands and face in...That was a must, first thing in the morning wash your hands and face..mom and dad knew by looking at you if you had washed or not...
We knew some people growing up that used the chamber pot...But we were taught you didn't use that, you go out to the outhouse....
I saw him looking at something, and I ask what are you doing Shag? and as I stepped closer I saw what he was doing....ugh....you know it is getting warm when the snakes come out of their winter den...
Love your pictures. I saw many of the may apples when we went hunting for the mushrooms yesterday. I love the sightings you had at the old homestead.
ReplyDeleteI would love to know more about mushroom hunting. I've never been mushroom hunting. I've found one on the side of the road once though. Where do you look for them? Any tricks?
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures Andora! I love seeing all of the things getting green around my house! We also had a snake encounter but ours was way different than yours. I did a post on it today if you want to take a look at it. Your kitty is so cute and innocent looking playing with that snake!
ReplyDeleteHave a Great Week!
Angela
Wonderful shots! I always wish I lived further South and got to experience more of spring earlier! I so envy you all

Great spring picture!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any snakes out yet here and really don't care to see any. Think it's funny though that Shag found a new toy to play with.
Nice series of photos. That kitty is brave!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing those nice photos. We have leaves, so I know you'll have them quickly! Have a good week, Deb
ReplyDeleteLoved viewing all your photos, Andora...even the snake. We're just starting to spot butterflies here, the old well is very pretty, we had one on the property, but had to fill it in, because of the grandchildren living so close. Don't apple blossoms make you happy!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week...♥...Wanda
You have the most interseting walks in those woods, you are most definately in God's Country.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures of the butterflies and blooms, we seem to be a little further along here in Middle Tennessee but that's because your further North, slightly :)
I don't care for snakes, I never met one until I came to America, and each time I see one, however small, I think their out to bite .
Spring is here and you have the pictures to prove it !
What gorgeous photos! Your blog is lovely and I missed reading it.
ReplyDeleteExceptional pics!!! (As always) I can't believe Shag The Cat was going after the snake. Ikes. Brave kitty....he is confident with his 9 lives. :):)
