This is what it looked like..All the pretty red berries and the green leaves..
I wonder if this one below is a Eastern Bluebird to...???
Not sure... he looks a little different to me...
And here are some more...
And some more birds...
And I don't know what this one is above and below...I will have to look him up in the bird book.....or maybe it's a her... Does anyone know what this one is??? He looks like the one that climbs up the side of a tree looking for bugs and stuff,I have even seen him upside down on a tree..

It was beautiful to look at while the berries lasted. But I guess it was a lot of food for the birds..

There was some Robins eating to but couldn't get a shot of them..
They have been working for days on my tree..I guess to get fattened up for winter or migration...The berries were really ripe...They left dropped berries everywhere..I guess this is how the trees gets started in the woods.
But this is what my poor ole tree looks like now...

Speaking of food:
On a sad note: Shag the cat caught one of the Bluebirds and I couldn't save it,I tried to get it away from him,But he is just to fast,So I just go in the house and not look..The berries for the birds..birds for the cat...I don't like it but that is just the way of nature..

You are a sly one Mr.Shag.....
Have a good one all and take care....
I love the pictures of all the birds in your dogwood tree! What a great variety. It reminds me of our neighbor's cherry tree in the summer when the birds have a hay day eating the cherries. The gray one looks a little like a mockingbird.
ReplyDeleteHi Andora, I know what you mean by that's the way of nature...I saw a cat jump in the air 4 feet to swat a bird down to the ground, a bird on it's way to our feeder.
ReplyDeleteThe bluejays and the squirrels eat our dogwood berries, the squirrels dangle in the air from the very tips of the branches.
Maybe the bird that looks like a nuthatch is a vireo or warbler of some sort...It does have a distinctive beak, but I can't tell from the back just what it may be.
Mr.Shag looks so content.
Smiles,
Wanda
We have tons of Dogwoods on our property and they are all with the red seeds now and I am constantly hearing the Cardinals, Robins, BlueJays and more.
ReplyDeleteSurvival of the fittest, for sure. I used to have to look away too when they would go after a poor innocent Blue Bird.
I have got to get a dogwood tree, that looks like the best entertainment next to the chickens.
ReplyDeleteyour christmas countdown is lovely.
Jenny
He was just tryin' to protect your tree, Momma.....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Sorry about your tree.
Hi... Great photos of the birds. I also did a post about the dogwood berries being eaten but I didn't get any marvelous pictures of them doing it. Warblers are hard to figure out. This is web site might help: http://www.giffbeaton.com/warblers.htm.
ReplyDeleteAndora,
ReplyDeleteThe greenish-yellow birds with the black wings are scarlet tanagers in winter plumage, male and female. The picture below them almost look like winter plumaged robins, they are voracious fruit eaters too.
