We call them whistle pigs

These Ground hogs are an animal that we don't have in our yard or anywhere to close to our house..so this was a treat to get to see..
I know a lot of people don't want these critters around their gardens, because they eat everything in the garden... But take them away from the garden and they are really really cute..

Hubby and I went to this little town nearby for some ice cream and just to go for a drive...my son and his girlfriend told us where to park to eat our ice cream so that we could watch this family of "whistle pigs" as we call them here in our part of the woods..

And sure enough there they were..I think we saw five babies and three or four adults..
They were so cute and fun to watch... They were eating constantly..There was an old log house near by and it looked like they had a den under the porch of the house..I heard people say they have been there for a couple years....hope you enjoyed my new animal interrest...
We have been really busy still planning my two sons weddings this summer..haven't got to visit with you all much..but will be back often after the weddings are over...take care all my blogging buddies....

  1. I've never heard them called whistle pigs. We do see one every now and then waddle across from the field to the hillside. I've seen them climb the mulberry tree also!

Hope your wedding plans are going well!

  2. I've never heard of them called whistle pigs before.
We have plenty of them here and they can be a real nuisance.
If it weren't for that then yes they would be neat to watch.

  3. Andora,
Have married off 2 daughters, but not both in the same summer, whew! =) Happiness to them both.

They are woodchucks in northern NY where I grew up, and they are amusing to watch. My brother had a running battle with one who took up residence under their patio and thought their gorgeous perennial bed was his personal banquet. Nearly drove their dog crazy as he declared the 'chuck his personal enemy #1.

  8. Whistle pigs, that's cute! We have an abundance of deer and squirrels who eat our garden...but they are so pretty to watch we forgive them. Take your vitamins, weddings are hard!
